Professor Roem (as she is known) is a graduate from UNSW under the Colombo Plan Program which ran from the 1950s
until the 1970s. Born in Blitar in 1937, Proessor ‘Roem’ has spent more than 35 years in cancer
research and community education. This earns her a title of 'the Queen of Cancer Control' from well-known Director
of Cancer Division, WHO, Yan Tsyenwart. With her strong dedication in the cancer research, Professor Roem has

and long lasting effects that her time studying in Australia.
During the Alumni Dinner, Mr Farmer presented awards to 89 recently returned Australian Alumni and spoke glowingly
of the scholarship scheme. As a scholarship holder in Australia many years ago, Mr. Farmer told the dinner participants
that he knew personally the benefits that a successful and well run scholarship program can bring to recipients.
All Alumni would certainly agree with him on that point. In his speech on behalf of the Australian Government,
the Ambassador spoke about the Allison Sudradjat Awards and the extra opportunities the awards will provide
for alumni who are prepared to go that “extra step”.
